About MeThis pewter belt buckle comprises two clips with scarab beetle motifs, which fasten with a white moonstone. The scarab beetle was a symbol of rebirth and good fortune, made popular during the Egyptian Revival craze in the middle of the Edwardian period. The belt buckle is a cross-over of styles between the Arts and Crafts movement and the Art Nouveau movement.

Aberdeen born, Betty Clunas (1929-2012) served as the Chair of the Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums. She had a fondness for design created between 1890 and 1940. This buckle came into the collection as part of the Betty Clunas Gift in 2013.

More About Me
It's been said that everyone goes through a goth phase. Even the world of jewellery design was guilty apparently, as in 1900 design conventions changed from floral to themes of eroticism and death.
