General History:
26/01/1839:
"Yarmouth, Jan. 19. The brig FAVOURITE, Sangster, of Aberdeen, in ballast, took fire at about half past four pm this day when off Palling; the master and all hands were upon deck, and reefing the trysail, when they observed the fire, and every exertion was immediately used to extinguish it; notwithstanding which the flames gained upon her so fast, that in about half an hour the whole of the quarterdeck having fallen in, and it being therefore impossible to stear her, she was abandoned, and almost immediately after the main-mastwent over the side, and the vessel drifted towards Haisbro' sands. The crew were brought ashore by a beach boat which launched from Winterton to their assistance."
