10/02/1843:
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, near Morpeth, February 4 - The brig BLUCHER, of and from London, ballast for Warkworth, was, on Saturday morning, totally wrecked on some rocks near this place. The master, Mr. John Johnson, with two others, were saved; but three, including the son of master, were lost, being the third he has lost within a very short period. The survivors were attended to by the Rev. T. R. Shepperdson, who did all could to affort them comfort: but the poor master was inconsolable. It is remarkable that he had given his watch and money to his son, thinking that would have a better chance than himself of reaching the shore alive.
