STAR VII and sister ship STAR VI were part of a fleet of eleven ships owned by Hvalfanger for catching whales.
In 1966, when STAR VII was sold to Elling Aarseth & Co. and renamed LEIV AARSETH, it was converted from whaling to fishing and had a diesel engine installed.
STAR VII had multiple changes of appearance in its working life, from steam whale catcher to side fishing to purse netting. Steam to diesel with two diesel engines. Ice strengthened, and extension thrusters added.
Notes: Original engines 2 compound engines 14 9/10" and 34 1/4" cylinders, 32 1/2" stroke, by Hall, Russell.
