About MeTravelling in a rotary wing aircraft (helicopter) to the installations is relatively uncomfortable (passengers are 'suited up'), cramped and noisy. Before noise compensating headphones became widely available passengers were issued with ear plugs to prevent damage to their hearing through prolonged exposure to the noise level.

Such devices are still used today, both during transit offshore as well as in a few other situations, like when someone has to share a cabin with a noisy sleeper.
