About MeHere areas of red and ochre are outlined with prominent black lines, which serve to give the composition a decorative and flat, patterned effect. This was a technique that had been introduced by the Post Impressionists. The Scottish Colourist J.D. Fergusson began using it for his figure paintings. Although James McBey never admitted any debt to his Scottish contemporaries he was certainly aware of their art and may well have been influenced by it.More About Me
Renowned for her dark good looks, Marguerite married McBey in 1931 having trained as a photographer and bookbinder. Following McBey's death, Marguerite became a successful watercolour artist in her own right.
