Re-framing the Collection

History and Legacy of Enslavement in Aberdeen

A Voyage by NEPTUNE built in 1781, with William Wyatt as master and Thomas Sharpless as owner is in the transatlantic slave trade database as carrying 140 slaves from Gambia to Dominica, with 133 delivered in the Caribbean on 31 January 1792 (slavevoyages.org voyage id. 82911).

The database says the ship was built in St. Kitts which contradicts Lloyd's 1791 (N154) which states Aberdeen, and Lloyd's is consistent in giving Aberdeen as place built for entries in other years.

1782 Lloyd's entry has the name as NEPTUNUS but otherwise this appears to be the same ship.
