About MeA stunning Arts and Crafts necklace with the pendant drop formed as a large pale blue oval chalcedony; further decorated on both sides with brightly coloured multi-gem setting incorporating chrysoprase crescents, chrysopase oval cabochons, amethyst triangles, carnelian squares, moonstone oval cabochons and central circular orange chalcedony. The fine chain is hand wrought as is the foliate and scroll mount - both worked to an exceptionally high standard. Sybil Dunlop was born to Scottish parents, completing her education in Brussels where she was sent to learn French. Whilst she was there she learnt the rudiments of her craft. On returning to Britain in the 1920s she set up in business with W. Nathanson, working in a late Arts and Crafts style.
Her work is characterised by the use of gemstones and by jewels inspired by themes drawn from nature. She was fond of using gemstones, which were specially cut for her by lapidaries in Germany. Dunlop's work is amongst the best of the late Art and Crafts style, retaining a fresh and vibrant quality, when the output of others had become more outmoded.
Dated to circa 1930.

Born in England to Scottish parents, Dunlop learned her jewelling trade in Belgium before returning to Britain to revolutionise the outdated existing industry.
