This gold badge with white and blue enamel detail was awarded for 21 years' service and was usually presented by royalty.
The Queen's Nursing Institute was founded in 1887, Queen Victoria's Jubilee year, and originally called Queen Victoria's Jubilee Institute for Nurses. The name was changed in 1926 to the Queen's Institute of District Nursing but the design of the badge was otherwise largely unchanged. The badges were worn on cords around the neck by "Queen's Nurses". In 1972 the name would change again to "Queen's Nursing Institute" and in 1982 the badge was altered again.
