About MeThis table mat was made by Hanni Sanders in the late 20th century. The edging was worked in the "Madagascar" pattern. It was made with 17 pairs of bobbins and linen thread. Lace making was introduced to New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, in the 1820s. It became a thriving industry in north- east Scotland. Queen Victoria is said to have been particularly fond of New Pitsligo lace.
Bobbin lace is made by braiding and twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on bobbins to manage them. As the work progresses, the weaving is held in place with pins set in a pillow. The placement of the pins is usually determined by a pattern.
