About MeRound metal lantern with panes of flattened horn instead of glass. Pressed horn is reasonably translucent. It was used instead of glass because it was so much cheaper, for many centuries. There was an obvious restriction in the size of single sheet horn windows, but this was not a problem when horn was being used for lanterns such as this.
