About MeThis version of the town drum was probably a replacement for one broken by rioting Jacobite rebels on the night of 20 January 1746. It was the night of the Prince of Wales' birthday and the town drummer was drumming through the streets to encourage the residents of Aberdeen to illuminate their windows to show support for the King and his son. However a rebel mob armed with broadswords and cudgels attacked the drummer and broke his drum.

The sound (or tuck) of drum would have been common in Aberdeen from the earliest times. It was used to summon meetings of the Councils of the Royal Burgh as well as alerting people to proclamations and public executions. This drum is emblazoned with the town's arms and motto, 'Bon Accord'.
