About MeAnnual report of the Aberdeen Granite Manufacturers' Association President for the year 1950. A year of considerable activity is reported, with 37 committee meetings, one of which lasted at least seven hours. Subjects under discussion were: working conditions, namely the Union's demands for a 40 hour week, minimum wage of 3/6d per hour and two weeks' summer holiday; sustaining the supply of cube stone from local quarries (Creetown, Rubislaw, Kemnay and Corrennie); restricting the importation of granite to only unworked granite in types and colours not locally procurable; the loss of apprentices within 6 months of commencing indenture and the launch of an investigation as to why; the logic for maintaining national links via the British Stone Federation, despite the cost of its membership; prices; and the closure of James Taggart & Son. The president remarks on his own departure and gives thanks to those who have supported him. 4 pages, typed on one side and stapled.
