About MeCard with a reproduction of the 1915 British Army recruitment propaganda poster for by Saville Lumley. The poster depicts a father in his home with two children above the words "Daddy, what did YOU do in the Great War?" Here this text has been replaced with "Daddy, what did YOU do in the The Little Spartan War?" The card is addressed to Joyce Laing, dated 19.2.85 and postmarked 21 Feb 1985. Ian Hamilton Finlay has included a short message thanking Joyce for her phone call and talking about the "cause". The slogan "Little Sparta is a Lucid Moment in Strathclyde Region" is stamped on the back in blue ink, as is "Converse by Tom-Tom in Strathclyde Region" in red ink. This work is part of an archive that belonged to Joyce Laing, OBE. The artist, Ian Hamilton Finlay, was a personal friend and sent her an example of each new poem print and multiple as it was made.
