About MeThese three wooden triple dead eyes were essential parts of the rigging of a vessel and often associated with the tightening of the lines for the shrouds (sails). They come in various sizes according to where they were used on the vessel. The black coating on these examples are due to the waxy treatment they underwent both to protect the wood as well as to enable the lines (ropes) to run freely.
