About MeModel presented to George Thompson, owner of the Aberdeen White Star Line, by the ship builders Hood for approval prior to the building of the ship. Thermopylae represented a very large investment by Thompson. This model shows the original design concept based on Thomson's requirements for what was in effect an 'exhibition' class ship. A ship that was to be the fastest afloat and capable of carrying a large cargo.

The model carries a female figurehead rather than that of the Spartan,King Leonidas famed for his defence of Thermopylae. This points to it being made before Thompson had decided upon a name for the vessel.
