About MeChateau Montrose is one of the most prestigeous wines from around Bordeaux.

In the 1970's it was common for some quite elaborate corporate gifts to be distributed at the inauguration of a new field. This bottle of wine is one such gift.

This bottle was presented to the wife of the well known journalist Arthur Binnie, who reported on much of the early development of the offshore industry off the Scottish coast and its impact upon the country. It was gifted to commemorate the inauguration of the Montrose Field located 190km offshore from Aberdeen in 1976.

In the early years alcohol wasn't totally banned offshore so the presentation of drinks was not frowned upon as it would be today.

A label on the back reads: Presented to A Binnie, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Montrose Oil Field, 26th August 1976. Amoco (UK) Exploration Company. Gas Council (Exploration) Limited, Amerada Petroleum Corporation of the United Kingdom Limited, North Sea, Inc.
