About MeOne of a group of photographs taken for inclusion in the book Oil Rush published in 1975. The images are a snapshot of the activity and its impact upon Aberdeen and the wider area.

In the early 'boom years' when many of the huge oil and gas discoveries were being made in the North Sea, most of the companies and their specialist staff were drawn from the USA. The disposible income of these people and the lifestyle they led was very different from your average Scot at the time.
This is a portrait of a driller from Texas standing on St Nicholas Street, Aberdeen.
Although he was paid by the hour and worked for long stretches of perhaps 120 hours per week he was able to 'retire' to Texas and buy himself a ranch in his 40's.
