About MeSketch drawn by James McBey during his time as Official War Artist in Egypt from 26 May 1917, depicting a horse and rider looking out over a landscape. McBey has annotated certain parts of the sketch to indicate colour, for example he describes the ground in the background to be "grey green with a red sand colour" and the section at the front left is "mixed white posts."The sketch is kept within a sketchbook, along with a series of other related drawings.
This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this sketch.
