About MeAberdeen had its first lifeboat station in 1802. BON ACCORD was its third lifeboat, and was oar powered self righting vessel. It served out out of Aberdeen between 1857 and 1924, the latter date being when the RNLI took over responsibility for rescue at Aberdeen from the local harbour board.
BON ACCORD was beach launched (hence the large wheeled carriage), and called for strength and courage to crew it during rescue attempts which were usually in atrocious conditions and violent seas.
