About MeThe advance on Jerusalen took place in late 1917. A column comprising camels, cavalry and heavy artillery approaches the Wadi Ali gorge near Amwas, about 18 miles from Jerusalem. The arrival of these reinforcments brought the fighting to a close and the city surrendered on 9th December. Two days later, General Allenby famously made his formal entry into Jerusalem on foot, to show his respect for the Holy City.
