About MeLeandro R. Garrido was born in France and was also a member of the Staithes Group of artists, based in Staithes in North Yorkshire. They had travelled to the picturesque town after the development of the railways, seeking new subject matter for their works. They were inspired by the works of Monet, Cézanne and Renoir. This sketch could be a study for an oil painting of the same subject. Garrido produced the final work in Etaples, France, using a village girl as a model. Garrido focuses intently on the details of the eyes and the mouth and uses charcoal and white chalk to pick out the strong highlights and shadows with smooth, curving line.
