About MeEdwin Alexander was influenced by his father, Robert Alexander and his close circle of friends who were animal painters. This work resembles a picture by Joseph Crawhall titled 'White Drake' in the National Gallery of Scotland and may have been painted on the same occasion.

Alexander experimented with different media and employed Japanese techniques, such as the use of sugar paper and as here, painting with watercolour on linen. The linen provides greater depth and texture and the layered watercolour pigments faithfully represent the duck's feathers.

More About Me
A fierce looking duck takes centre stage in this watercolour on linen painting. The duck’s plump, white plumage is accentuated against the dark, simpler background.
