About MeBlack silk ordinary mourning dress comprising cuirasse bodice with stand up collar and satin trimming and bustle skirt with deep draped apron front and frilled hemline.

This dress was made by Thomas Cousin & Co. of Alloa for Mrs Elisabeth Melville who wore it for mourning, possibly after the death of her husband James Melville. The dress was worn with a large black cashmere shawl with a deep knotted silk fringe and embroidered floral decoration.
