About MeMichael Cardew was inspired by historical pottery and this coffee pot has an elegant prehistoric Cretan spout.
The sgraffito decoration was made by scratching through the surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting colour. The motif is known as 'Vumé Lily' named after the Vumé Pottery in Ghana, where Cardew worked between 1945 and 1948. This coffee pot has a brown glazed exterior and unglazed interior.
Made by Michael Cardew at his Wenford Bridge Pottery in Cornwall, England, after he returned from working in Africa.
