About MeKing Edward I, II, or III silver penny belonging to Aberdeen's St Nicholas Street hoard. Found in 1984, this hoard comprises 2538 coins, including coins from England, Scotland, Ireland and the continent, as well as 54 imitation coins.

Obverse: Forward facing crowned head with broad, curling hair framed with text inscription.
Reverse: Centrally placed long cross with three pellets in each corner and text ringing the outer edge.
Manufacture Method: Hammered
Condition: The coin is in poor condition. The reverse has semi visible central details and partially legible text due to heavy wear. The obverse has a completely smoothed king portrait, bar a still semi visible bifoliate crown and partially legible text, due to heavy wear. The coin has been clipped. The coin also features a special symbol on its obverse inscription, a cross moline. This is a symbol used by the Benedictine order of monks and Durham's mint.
