About MeKing Edward I or II imitation silver penny belonging to Aberdeen's St Nicholas Street hoard. Found in 1984, this hoard comprises 2538 coins, including coins from England, Scotland, Ireland and the continent, as well as 54 imitation coins.

Coin Type: Penny, Forgery
Coin Issuer: Unknown forger
Date Minted: 1305-1310
Mint Location: Claims to be minted in London.
Find Date: 1984
Obverse: Forward facing crowned head with broad, curling hair framed with text inscription.
Reverse: Centrally placed long cross with three pellets in each corner and text ringing the outer edge.
Manufacture Method: Hammered
Condition: The coin is in poor condition and has been heavily clipped. It is a forgery based on legitimate Class 10cf 1-6 pennies, but with a crown that does not exactly match and an incorrect obverse inscription. The reverse has clear central details and legible text, despite wear and clipping. The obverse has a slightly worn king portrait and legible text, bar some loss from wear and clipping. The obverse also has a indent from the cross on the reverse side. The coin is also very tarnished and slightly warped.
