About MeCeramic plate from 1994 commemorating the 1894-1805 bicentenary of the planning, layout and construction of Union Street - ‘the City’s new carriageway’.

The plate shows illustrations of several buildings on Union Street: Kirk of St Nicholas, Trinity Hall, Commercial Union Building, Music Hall, Tolbooth and Townhouse, and Union Building Athenaeum. These are interspersed with Kelly’s cats, which are also on Union Street. The central image in this plate is an old depiction of Union Street bridge and surrounding area of Aberdeen, including the building that housed J. W. Baker Ltd.

The plate was commissioned by J.W. Baker Ltd, Aberdeen – a china, crystal and pottery company who had premises on 136-138 Union Street for 156 years, closing in 2004.
