In the early 1950s young men from working-class backgrounds found they were able to afford expensive clothing and adopted an Edwardian style of dress that had been introduced by Saville Row tailors in the 1940s. One of the major elements of this style of dress was the long draped jacket, based on the Edwardian morning coat, which became known as the 'Teddy Boy' coat.
