About MeThis is a scroll hilted sword in silver plated sheath. This model is similar to the 'Royal Engineers Officer's Sword', created according to the 'Dress Regulations' of 1857. The steel blade of the sword is straight, spear pointed and inscribed with partially worn words reading 'Aberdeen Engineer Volunteers', suggesting it was specially commissioned for Aberdonian Frost Pasha during his service in the Ottoman Turkish army. The sword grip is covered in shagreen - a kind of untanned leather with a rough granulated surface - wrapped with copper wire. The brass scroll hilt above the handle is partially wrapped in suede leather thong. This type of sword was in use until 1897 when the Royal Engineers followed the Infantry and all dismounted regiments with a different sword model.
