About MeObverse: Scottish crown above flat-topped shield charged with lion rampant; thistle at each side of shieldReverse: scottish crown above palm tree;tortoise climbing trunk of tree;inscription on ribbon with date below; crowned thistle countermark
This coin belongs to the period of Mary's marriage to Henry, Lord Darnley. It is countermarked with a crowned thistle added as a result of the revaluation of 1558 in the reign of James VI. This increased the value of the ryal from 30/- to 36/9d.
