About MeClothes rationing was introduced in June 1941. The ration system was based on coupons with each type of garment having its own coupon value. Everyone had an allowance of 66 coupons a year, which was reduced to just 40 in 1943. Combined with steep prices, this discouraged purchases except for essentials. Many adults went without to clothe their children.
