About MeJames Cadenhead studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Schools and in Paris, under Carolus Duran. There he was deeply affected by the art of the aesthetic artists Cazin and Whistler. They had come under the spell of Japanese prints, which were flooding into Europe at the time and strongly affecting composition and treatment of French art. This influence can be seen here in Cadenhead's Japanese-style monogram, which echoes the crescent moon above and in the way he uses an overall blue tone to capture the poetic evocation of the landscape, rather than its physical reality.
More About Me
Cadenhead's time in Paris was influenced by fellow artists there and the then current fascination with Japanese art, as here where the overall blue tone evokes rather than depicts the landscape
