About MeThe English gold nobles of Henry VI bear a design dating back to the mid-14th century; it shows the King standing in a ship and carrying a sword and shield.

A small but miscellaneous hoard containing English, Scottish and Continental coins was found in Caithness in 1881. The Wick hoard which was probably deposited before 1500 included a number of English gold nobles of Henry VI.

The presence of gold coins in this and other hoards from remote areas may simply indicate that they circulated less frequently than in more populous areas.
