About MeA censer is a vessel used to hold burning incense and can be made in various shapes, sizes and materials. The earliest censers date to the Shang period (c.1600-1046 BC) and were made of bronze. They were used as ritual and sacrificial vessels and for cooking food. During the Song dynasty (960-1279) censers began to be used to burn incense in the Chinese scholar’s studio.
