About MeAs an official war artist, James McBey spent five days on reconnaissance with the Australian Camel Patrol in the Sinai desert. The treck resulted in his justly famous series of etchings, the 'Desert of Sinai Set', which appeared in 1919. In these seven etching plates McBey records the journey with characteristic economy of line. Here he captures perfectly the intense heat of the desert and the awkward gait of the camels. This plate became his most sought after etching and in the 1920s it achieved a record price for a modern print.
More About Me
McBey's minimalist interpretation clearly shows that "less is more"!
