About MeIn 1874 Aberdeen District Tramways first took the streets of Aberdeen. These were horse-drawn vehicles which ran from the south end of King Street to Queen's Cross; and from St Nicholas Street out to Causewayend. In August 1898 Aberdeen Corporation Tramways was created and from then up until their demise trams were run by the Council. A year after taken over their running the Council introduced electrification and gradually extended it to all services as well as generally extending the system throughout the city. As early as 1920 the Council introduced buses and these slowly put pressure on the trams. In May 1958 the tramway system came to an end and after a parade down union Street they were ceremonially burnt at the Beach.
