About MeSketchbook used by James McBey during his time as Official War Artist in Egypt from 26 May 1917. It has a cloth covered card cover with "James McBey, Official Artist, G.H.Q, I.d., E.E.F.," written on it in pen, and elastic to hold the book closed. These two inside pages have detailed handwritten annotations, written by McBey, outlining the content of some of the sketches.

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this sketchbook.
