About MeHistorically the troubles leading to the first China War had been brewing for some time; i.e. the very different trading methods used by British and Chinese merchants. The breaking point came when the Chinese destroyed warehouses containing huge stocks of opium over the importation of which the Honourable East India Company had a monopoly.
Peter Maxwell, of HMS `North Star', was one of 173 crew members of that vessel to be awarded the First China War medal.
