Field-marshall George Wade, was born Ireland in 1673. He served in Flanders, and Spain. In 1724 Wade was appointed Commander-in-Chief of North Britain and sent to the Highlands and over the next eleven years, was responsible for the building of over 250 miles of roads and forty bridges. He died in 1748 in London.
