About MeCadell was posted to the French Front in 1915. Once there he produced a series of witty drawings of army life. The series, entitled "Jack and Tommy" was published as a book the following year.

With a few deft strokes, Cadell has captured the ‘social types’ of the rank and file ‘Tommy’ and the upper-crust Officer. The work reflects Cadell's personality - humorous and light-hearted.
