The wooden box is painted black and has a metal handle and latch to secure the lid with a padlock (not present). The numerous tools include trowels, slickers, corner tools, pipe tools, hub tools and vent wire.
Some of the tools show considerable wear but most are generally in very good condition. Some tools are marked with a manufacturer's name (T.MONK) and some with the name of the tradesman who used them at some time (J.CATTO).
The moulder was a man who used special sand to make a foundry mould. The sand was carefully built around a wooden pattern. The tools helped him force sand in, helped him shape and smooth the mould. The wooden pattern was taken out leaving the shape required.
