About MeIan Fleming was a painter, engraver, etcher and teacher. Between 1948 and 1954 he was the warden at Hospitalfield House, where many of Scotland's most promising painters attended a post-graduate summer school. It was at Hospitalfield that this portrait of Fleming's fellow artist and student Angus Neil was painted. Neil's character was one of warmth, charm and talent, yet he had an unstable temperament. Fleming successfully captures this complex personality in the expressive features of his sitter.
More About Me
Neil's character was one of warmth, charm and talent, but he had an unstable temperament. Did Fleming capture any of that?
