About MeBarometers are used at sea to measure air pressure. Changes in pressure can warn of approaching bad weather.

The barometer has a long suspension arm, to keep it clear of the wall to which it is attached. This ensured that the instrument was not damaged by the ship's movements.

This bar was used locally by the Board of Trade for many years, in seamen's examinations.
