About MeTea used to be compressed into blocks for easy storage and transportation, mainly to areas immediately around China, such as Tibet or Siberia. They were also used as a means of exchange after the year 800.
Tea bricks come in various qualities, generally the darker the colour the higher quality the tea. They are still made today for export as tourist souvenirs and decorative items.
