About MeTunnicliffe was an illustrator, painter, printmaker and writer. Living in rural Wales, he specialised in landscape and anatomically correct animal paintings.

'The Welsh Black Bull' is a descendant of those prize bulls fearsomely muscled and heavily dewlapped, commissioned by Victorian estate owners as records for breeding purposes. The scroll forms on the handsome blacksmith-made gate echo the bull's curling horns and act as a reminder of his ferocity.
