About MeKnown as a ‘dwang’ in Scotland, the most common form is a flat, bat-shaped piece of wood, about 10 inches long, with a rectangular aperture in the lower part. One end of the webbing is nailed in position; the other is looped through the slot in the strainer, with a peg put through the loop to secure it. The strainer is then levered over to stretch the webbing which, when taut, is nailed down to its point of attachment.
