About MeThis snowy scene depicts Gleadless Cottage Farm, Intake, near Sheffield. Royle trained at Sheffield College of Art and the surrounding countryside was his inspiration for many years. Two years after he painted this picture, Royle emigrated to Canada, later becoming Director of the School of Fine Arts in New Brunswick. In 1945 he returned to Britain, settling once again in the Sheffield area. Though he did paint portraits it is as an interpreter of landscape that Royle made his name and for which he is today remembered. More About Me
Royle, an English post-Impressionist, uses warm colours to depict the comforting walls of a farmhouse in this snowy Yorkshire scene.
