About MeThis is a preparatory sketch for the oil version of 'Ploughing the Downs.' The sketch gives us an insight into Bevan's technique and his passion for depicting the equine form, a passion that stayed with him throughout his career. The artist uses heavy bold lines to outline the angular quarters of the horses. In doing this he adds a realistic weight to these working animals. Looking at the sketch and the oil side by side we can see that this weight has been translated in the finished version, and although the horses brim with colour they retain their solidity.
