About MeDesigned by Frank Brangwyn for Royal Doulton
Frank Brangwyn worked across a range of media. When he started with Doulton he wanted to make decorative earthenwares available to those on lower incomes. Despite being hand painted they retailed cheaply, but the designs appealed to the middle class market rather than those for whom they were intended.
Frank Brangwyn was one of several well known artists who were employed in the 1930s by pottery manufacturers to bring new design ideas to their wares. These designs were rarely a commercial success.
